AMBER FACTS:

Amber is the name for fossil resin or tree sap that is appreciated for its colour. It is used for the manufacture of ornamental objects and jewellery. Although not mineralized, it is sometimes considered a gemstone.

The Baltic region is home to the largest known deposit of amber called Baltic amber, with about 80% of the world's known amber found here. It dates from between 35 to 40 million years ago.  The term Baltic amber is generic, so amber from the Bitterfeld mines in Germany (which is only 20 million years old) goes under the same name.

Because Baltic amber contains about 8% succinic acid, it is also termed Succinite.

AMBER JEWELRY CARE:

Amber is very soft, between 2 1/2-3 on the Mohs Scale and can be scratched easily.  Bracelets and rings with amber cabochons should be worn with care to prevent marring the stone.

Much of the amber used in commercial jewelry is actually reconstituted which makes it harder and less prone to scratching.  Reconstituted and processed amber usually doesn't have natural inclusions - but is still amber.

HEALING PROPERTIES:

Helps remove energy blockages, strengthens physical body. Excellent for enhancing altered states of consciousness.

ARTIBILITY amber are natural, reconstituted and enhanced. Some are polished, rough, chips, hand cut and machine cut.  They will be described as such.

They come from all over the world and will vary in shapes, sizes and grades as all natural stones.
